Thomas Homann, the Border Security official in the administration of President Donald Trump, announced that the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has commenced operations to arrest illegal immigrants on American soil in preparation for their deportation.
In a statement to CNN, Homann said, “Immigration and Customs Enforcement is enforcing the law today.”
He added, “As I mentioned, we are focusing on the threats that pose to public security.”
He continued, “This will be our priority. Therefore, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have returned to active duty.”
However, Homann declined to describe the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement as “raids,” stating that they are law enforcement operations.
According to him, service employees know exactly how to operate in a very planned manner, and their mission is to arrest illegal immigrants with criminal records and those who pose a threat to public security.
He further stated, “This is happening across the country. I won’t provide specific locations, but the administration has resumed operations as of today, something they were unable to accomplish for years.”
It is worth noting that Trump had previously announced that he would sign, on his inauguration day, a series of executive orders to close U.S. borders to illegal immigrants, promising to “deport and eliminate every member of a foreign gang, as well as every illegal immigrant on U.S. soil.”
