His Excellency President of the Republic and President of the African Union, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, hosted a delegation from the global company British Petroleum (BP) this Monday afternoon at the presidential palace in Nouakchott. The delegation was led by Mr. Gordon Birrell, Vice President Executive for Production and Operations, and included Mr. Dave Campbell, Senior Vice President in charge of Mauritania and Senegal, as well as Mr. Mohamed El Imam, Vice President in charge of Mauritania.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the existing relationship between Mauritania and BP, with a focus on enhancing cooperation and partnership in the energy sector. The primary objective was to promote increased collaboration between Mauritania and Senegal, alongside BP, to further develop and expand joint initiatives within the energy field. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of deepening and broadening this cooperation to achieve mutual economic benefits and advance the region’s energy infrastructure.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Nani Ould Achrouq, Minister in charge of the Presidential Cabinet, His Excellency Mohamed Ould Khaled, Minister of Energy and Petroleum, and His Excellency Biram Soly Job, Senegal’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum. Their presence highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership and underscored the commitment of the respective governments to support and enhance regional energy development.
This initiative aligns with Mauritania’s strategy to strengthen its role in the energy sector both nationally and regionally. BP, as a leading global energy company, aims to expand its operations and investments in the region in accordance with sustainable development and economic growth plans. The collaboration between Mauritania, Senegal, and BP is expected to foster significant advancements in energy projects, benefiting all parties involved and contributing to the overall stability and prosperity of the region.
