The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, has launched a new digital platform for the formation and management of political parties in Mauritania. The goal of this platform, according to them, is to simplify and facilitate the procedures related to the creation of political parties and to strengthen pluralistic democracy in the country.
The Minister of the Interior, Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine, confirmed that this initiative is part of efforts to develop democracy and administration, as well as to organize and improve the political landscape. The Mauritanian president launched a consultation process to ensure the existence of political parties with political and intellectual elites capable of influencing political and social life, while ensuring their diversity at the local and regional levels.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister stated in his program, presented two months ago, that his government is preparing to make amendments to the political party law, as part of the upcoming dialogue, with the aim of improving and organizing the political landscape of the country in line with democratic aspirations and party pluralism.
However, this new law is completely rejected by some opposition parties, who oppose its details and consider it an insufficient step toward achieving true political pluralism in the country.
