Hebrew media reported that the Israeli police arrested Daniel Kay Toub, a 26-year-old settler from Petah Tikva, on charges of carrying out intelligence operations for Iran in exchange for financial compensation.

According to a joint statement from the Shin Bet (Israeli Security Agency) and the Israeli police, the accused had been in contact with a foreign agent for several months, executing sensitive intelligence tasks based on their instructions. A serious indictment is expected to be filed against him today, Thursday, in the Central Court of Lod.

Intelligence Tasks Ordered by Iran

Investigations revealed that Kay Toub had carried out several missions inside Israel according to the orders he received, including spraying graffiti in various areas of Petah Tikva and Rosh HaAyin, as well as attempting to film the house of Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar and Israeli military bases.

The investigation also revealed that the accused had personally offered to film the house of former Defense Minister Benny Gantz, although this mission was not ultimately carried out.

Israeli intelligence services confirmed that Kay Toub was aware he was communicating with an Iranian entity, having conducted online research and followed media reports about the issue. Despite knowing the dangerous nature of the tasks, he proceeded to carry out the instructions.

Dismantling a Larger Espionage Network

This case is part of a series of arrests carried out by Israeli security forces recently. Hebrew media confirmed that about 30 Israeli settlers were arrested on suspicion of being involved in espionage for Iran as part of secret cells operating within Israel.

The Shin Bet revealed that some of these groups were planning major attacks, including the assassination of an Israeli nuclear scientist and former senior military officials.

Additionally, one of these cells had gathered sensitive information about military bases and Israeli air defense systems, while another team, consisting of a father and son, was transferring details about the movements of Israeli forces in the Golan Heights.

Security Alert in Israel

Israeli authorities described these developments as a “serious threat to national security”, stating that Iranian intelligence services had been working for two years to recruit ordinary Israeli citizens. Their strategy reportedly relied on offering financial incentives in exchange for carrying out espionage tasks or attacks within Israel.

Israel reiterated its commitment to continuing its investigations to identify and dismantle additional suspected cells, emphasizing that strict actions would be taken against anyone involved in such activities.

At present, an indictment against Daniel Kay Toub is expected to be filed today, Thursday, in the Central Court of Lod, while investigations continue into the other suspects.
