The official visit of General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on January 13 and 14, 2025, concluded with a joint statement, the text of which reads as follows:
“His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, President of the Republic and Chair of the African Union, welcomed General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, who arrived at the head of a high-level Sudanese delegation.
This visit reflects the strong fraternal ties between Mauritania and Sudan, rooted in deep historical and cultural bonds that unite the two brotherly peoples.
During their discussions, His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani and General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan addressed bilateral relations and the latest developments in Sudan.
The Mauritanian President expressed his deep concern regarding the Sudanese crisis, with its security, political, social, and humanitarian dimensions, emphasizing the dangers of its continuation on Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity. He also stressed the urgent need for swift and comprehensive responses to ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to all affected areas and to implement plans for reconstruction and economic revitalization.
His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani assured General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan of Mauritania’s full readiness to support Sudan in overcoming its current crisis and to provide any assistance deemed necessary by the Sudanese brothers in this regard.”
