Today, Saturday, Hamas handed over four Israeli soldiers to the International Red Cross in the Gaza Strip as part of the second phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Israel.
The released soldiers are Karina Areiv, Daniela Gelboa, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag. They were transferred through the Kerem Shalom border crossing, where they underwent medical checks before being handed over to Israeli authorities.
In return, Israel released 200 Palestinian prisoners, including 120 serving life sentences and 80 others serving long terms.
This exchange is part of a ceasefire agreement aimed at ending a 15-month war in Gaza that resulted in over 47,000 Palestinian deaths. Under the agreement, prisoner exchanges will continue over six weeks, with Hamas releasing 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, alongside a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from some areas in Gaza.
Despite this recent exchange, 94 Israelis and foreigners remain held in Gaza, with uncertainty surrounding the number who are still alive.
