As part of a series of meetings between Mauritania and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), an IMF mission has begun a visit to the country aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and supporting Mauritania’s macroeconomic and budgetary framework.

The mission is led by Marie-Pierre Aquino, head of the delegation tasked with capacity building and developing the macroeconomic framework. The visit commenced with a meeting on Wednesday in Nouakchott with the Minister Delegate in charge of the budget, Nekinor Kodioro Moussa.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation, as well as the main points of a plan to support Mauritania’s economic and budgetary framework, with a particular focus on developing human capacities in the economic and financial sectors.

This visit builds on a series of arrangements and reviews carried out over the past year. In December, the IMF announced the immediate disbursement of 36.16 Special Drawing Rights (SDR), equivalent to approximately $47.4 million, to Mauritania. Additionally, the third review of the arrangements under the “Extended Credit Facility” and “Extended Fund Facility”, as well as the second review under the “Resilience and Sustainability Facility”, were completed, according to an official IMF statement.

These visits are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the partnership between Mauritania and the IMF, aimed at supporting economic development and ensuring financial stability.
