Israeli Channel 12 reported that an entire team from the Israel Defense Forces’ “Nahal” Brigade was killed during intense clashes in Beit Hanoun, in the northern Gaza Strip.
According to the report, the IDF spokesperson permitted the publication on Monday evening of the tragic incident in which five soldiers from the “Nahal” Brigade lost their lives due to an explosion during a military operation. The explosion occurred as the soldiers were preparing to use engineering equipment, causing the collapse of the building where they were stationed.
The incident resulted in the death of five soldiers and serious injuries to eight others, bringing the total casualties and injuries in the brigade’s reconnaissance battalion to 13 out of the 17 members of the “Z1 Team.”
The report noted that the “Z1 Team” had completed its military training only two months before the outbreak of the conflict on October 7. At the onset of hostilities, the team was deployed to Rafah, where they engaged in prolonged operations before being reassigned to Beit Hanoun.
During their mission in Beit Hanoun, the team was inside a building clearing the area when the explosion occurred, leading to these significant losses.
Channel 12 highlighted the exceptional camaraderie and strong bonds within the team, which had grown stronger over months of continuous combat.
The soldiers who perished in the incident were identified as:
- Captain Yair Yaakov Shushan, 23 years old.
- Sergeant Yahav Hadar, 20 years old.
- Sergeant Guy Carmiel, 20 years old.
- Sergeant Yoav Peber, 19 years old.
- Sergeant Aviel Weizman, 20 years old.
