U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Friday that ongoing negotiations regarding the release of detainees in Gaza have made “real progress.”
Speaking to reporters at the White House during a press conference about the Los Angeles wildfires, Biden stated, “We are making real progress. I met with the negotiators today.”
He added, “I remain hopeful that we can reach a deal for an exchange. Currently, Hamas is the obstacle to this exchange, but I believe we might be able to achieve it. We need to get this done.”
Meanwhile, the Hamas movement called on Thursday for U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to intervene and pressure Israel into reaching a comprehensive agreement to end the war in Gaza.
In remarks to CNN, Taher Al-Nounou, an advisor to the Hamas leadership, said, “We urge U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to intervene and press the Israeli occupation to achieve a comprehensive agreement that ensures an end to the ongoing war in Gaza, a ceasefire, the safe return of all detainees to their families, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory.”
