The Sahel States Alliance (SSA) reacts to the postponement of the Presidential election in SENEGAL.

“The turnaround by President Macky Sall tonight has created turmoil within the Senegalese political class and at the international level. Despite his repeated assurances not to seek a controversial third term, Macky Sall has canceled the decree setting the date for the presidential election scheduled for February 25, 2024. This dramatic change breaks the promise of the much-awaited democratic transition by the Senegalese people,” declared the Sahel States Alliance (SSA) on the social network X. Now, the Alliance adds, we “await the reaction of ECOWAS and the possible sanctions it might consider in this situation. Indeed, the organization has already reacted strongly to attempts at coups in Sahel countries.”
