Nigeria's Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, stated that nearly 130,000 members of the terrorist group Boko Haram, including women and children, have laid down their arms over the past five months. Speaking at a security conference in Doha, he detailed that the number includes 30,426 fighters, 36,774 women, and 62,265 children.
This large-scale disarmament is attributed to a combination of military operations, dialogue, and rehabilitation programs. However, the exact number of Boko Haram members remains unclear, with estimates running into tens of thousands.
Boko Haram, which has been fighting for more than a decade to establish an Islamic state, has caused the deaths of tens of thousands and carried out cross-border attacks in Chad and Cameroon, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
