The ICESCO has announced the launch of a rehabilitation project for the ancient mosque of Chinguetti, a significant historical landmark in Mauritania, in collaboration with the Mauritanian Ministry of Culture. The project includes the renovation of the mosque, the imam's residence, and the interior and exterior courtyards, adhering to technical standards for heritage preservation.

The announcement was made during a visit by ICESCO’s Director-General, Dr. Salim M. Al-Malik, to the mosque on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the "Heritage Cities Festival" in Chinguetti.

The Chinguetti mosque, established in 160 AH, holds great historical and spiritual significance, having educated thousands of scholars and served as a key stop for pilgrims from West Africa.

This initiative is part of the partnership between ICESCO and Mauritania, aimed at protecting and promoting Islamic and cultural heritage. The mosque is renowned for its unique architectural design, combining simplicity with precise geometry, and is recognized as a global heritage site.
