Tindouf-Zouerate Road: First Section Near Completion Amid Sovereignty Controversy

Algeria is nearing the completion of the first 88-kilometer section of the road connecting Tindouf in Algeria to Zouerate in Mauritania. The 840-kilometer road is being constructed by ten Algerian companies. The project has sparked controversy over its implications for Mauritanian sovereignty, as the agreement grants Algeria the right to exploit the road for 10 years, with an implicit renewal, and exclusive commercial rights along the route, including fuel stations operated by the Algerian company Naftal.
