His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, oversaw the laying of the foundation stone for the sanitation project in the city of Nouakchott (Pole A), considered one of the most significant development projects in the capital's history. The project, with a total cost exceeding $177 million, is fully funded by the Mauritanian state budget. It will cover the districts of Tevragh Zeina, Sebkha, Ksar, as well as parts of El Mina and Teyarett, with indirect benefits for other districts. The project consists of two main components: domestic wastewater sanitation and rainwater drainage, and is expected to be completed within 45 months.
The Minister of Water and Sanitation emphasized that this project aims to address unplanned urban expansion and provide sustainable development solutions, while improving infrastructure and essential services in the capital. She also highlighted the importance of the works in tackling water challenges, climate change, and rising groundwater levels. This project reflects the directives of the President of the Republic and demonstrates the state's commitment to achieving comprehensive development and modernizing Nouakchott to meet the expectations of its residents.
