The Islamic Jihad Movement revealed in a statement on Monday that the Israeli forces have arrested the official spokesperson of the movement in Gaza, Tareq Selmi, and treated him harshly.
In an announcement published by the movement on Telegram, it condemned "the actions of the occupation forces against Tareq Selmi, the spokesperson for the Islamic Jihad, and his mistreatment".
The movement blamed Israel for failing to ensure his safety.
The movement did not provide specific details about the circumstances or date of Selmi's detention, while Israel has not commented on the incident.
Since October 7th, Israel has been conducting a military operation in Gaza that has resulted in the death and injury of tens of thousands, the majority of whom are children and women, causing a humanitarian crisis and widespread destruction of infrastructure. This has led Tel Aviv to face accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
