Francesca Albanese, the UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, faced sharp criticism following her call to suspend Israel’s membership in the United Nations until it ceases violating international law against Palestinians. In a press conference at UN headquarters in New York, Albanese presented her report on Israeli violations, stating that "the violence committed by Israel and settlers extends far beyond Gaza, impacting areas across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem." She highlighted an escalation in "ethnic cleansing practices and racism in these regions.
Albanese recommended a reassessment of Israel’s UN membership, suggesting a suspension until Israel complies with international law and ends its occupation of Palestinian territories.
In response, Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, launched a strong attack on Albanese, describing her as "one of the most antisemitic figures in modern history." He called her presence at the UN "a disgrace and a betrayal of ethical standards," urging her to resign immediately, adding that she would "be better suited alongside her friends in Hamas and Hezbollah."
