Transit traffic between Mauritania and Mali via the 'Koki Zamal' border post was disrupted due to a border crisis which worsened after Malian forces backed by Wagner's Russian forces penetrated the border Mauritanian. In response to these developments, the head of the Mauritanian community in Mali warned Mauritanians to leave border areas for fear of dangers. Faced with this situation, Mauritania began to push back certain Malians who had entered its territory, which provoked protests and the closure of the crossing by Malian transport unions.
In the same context, a high-level Malian delegation arrived in Nouakchott with a written message from the interim Malian president, Asmi Equita, which addressed the strengthening of bilateral relations and the continuation of consultations on regional issues. Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani received the delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Job and Minister of Defense Sodio Camara at the presidential palace in Nouakchott. During the meeting, the important role that Mauritania plays in supporting the stability and territorial integrity of Mali was highlighted, while thanks were expressed to Mauritania for its support to the Malian community.
