The Rape of the University Student in Dar Naim: The "Tawassoul" Party Condemns the Crime

University student Lalla Bint Sidi Mohamed was subjected to assault and rape by three individuals in her home in Dar Naim during her mother’s absence, sparking widespread outrage in Mauritania. The victim’s aunt demanded strict justice and severe punishment for the perpetrators, expressing her indignation at attempts to classify the assailants as minors or "underage individuals," a category that benefits from special legal treatment potentially leading to lighter sentences. She described this as a violation of the victim’s rights and a manipulation of justice.

The police acted swiftly, arresting the suspects in less than 12 hours. They announced the completion of the investigation and referred the suspects to the public prosecutor.
