Political activist Ahmed Ould Haroun Ould Cheikh Sidiya announced his intention to run in the upcoming presidential elections. The announcement came during a press conference held today in Nouakchott. During the event, Ould Cheikh Sidiya stressed his desire to achieve radical change in the government system by building a strategic partnership. He noted that the time has come for this change.
Ould Cheikh Sidiya's candidacy also comes after several other political figures announced their entry into the presidential race, including parliamentary representative Al-Aid Ould Mohameden, Al-Murtaji Ould El-Wafi, lawyer Mohamed Ould Cheikh, Ely Cheikh Ould Hadrami and Biram Al-Dah and Ould Amam. Current President Mohamed Ould Sheikh Al-Ghazouani is expected to announce his candidacy for a second term soon, despite speculation that he may not run.
