German authorities have announced the arrest of a Lebanese man in the Hanover region on suspicion of being a member of the Lebanese organization "Hezbollah." According to the federal prosecutor, the man has held leadership roles in two associations controlled by Hezbollah since 2009.
He is suspected of organizing events for preachers close to the group and maintaining regular contact with its leaders. Investigations also revealed that he participated in leadership training courses in Lebanon during the summer of 2008 and briefly worked in 2017 as an external correspondent for a media outlet affiliated with Hezbollah.Additionally, he was tasked with coordinating the construction of a mosque in Hanover.
The accused is charged with belonging to a "terrorist organization" abroad. Arrested by officers from the Federal Investigation Bureau, he will be brought before a federal judge who will decide on his placement in pretrial detention.
