During the opening of the fifth congress of the women’s organization of the National Rally for Reform and Development (Tawassoul) party, held in Nouakchott under the slogan “Facing Challenges and Strengthening Achievements,” the president of the organization, Mrs. Aicha Bouna, emphasized that Mauritanian women are enduring difficult circumstances due to escalating security, social, and economic crises.
She stated that the participation of Mauritanian women in decision-making remains below expectations, especially in rural areas where health, social, and local development challenges are more severe. She called for serious actions and concrete decisions to address these issues, which directly impact citizens’ lives.
Mrs. Bouna urged a review of laws governing women’s participation and the development of policies aimed at improving their conditions. She stressed the need for firm measures to deter perpetrators of rape and to protect women’s rights. She concluded by calling for dedicated efforts to bring about positive change that enhances the role of women in Mauritanian society.
