An Israeli political source disclosed on Monday the details of a new agreement reached between Israel and Hamas, described as a “ceasefire agreement.” According to the source, Israel insisted on establishing a buffer zone along the Gaza border, where Israeli forces will be deployed to protect Israeli communities in the western Negev region.

The source stated that the agreement includes the release of a number of Palestinian prisoners. However, Israel categorically refused to release detainees to the West Bank. The number of prisoners to be freed will depend on the number of living Israeli hostages returned by Hamas.

The agreement also allows Gaza residents to return to the northern parts of the territory through the “Netsarim” corridor, under specific security arrangements to ensure their safety.

Key Points of the Agreement

  1. Release of an initial group of Israeli hostages within one week.
  2. Liberation of 33 Israelis, including elderly individuals over 50, female soldiers, children, and the sick.
  3. Release of Palestinian prisoners, including those classified as “responsible for violent acts.”
  4. Implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire for a duration of 42 days.
  5. Permission for Gaza residents to move from the south to the north under Israeli supervision.
  6. Beginning discussions on the second phase of the agreement after completing the first phase.
  7. Full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza after all hostages are released.
  8. Israeli forces will remain in a buffer zone around Gaza to secure the border.

Details of the First Phase of the Agreement

In this phase, all female hostages, whether civilians or soldiers, as well as children, elderly individuals over 50, and the sick will be released.

This phase will extend over several weeks according to the agreed timeline. Starting on the 16th day, Israel and Hamas will initiate discussions on the second phase, aiming to recover all remaining Israeli hostages.

Role of Mediators and Agreement Context

The source highlighted that regional changes and the significant blows dealt to Hamas in recent months facilitated the conclusion of this agreement. The source added that mediation by Egypt and Qatar, supported by the United States, was instrumental in achieving this progress.

Previous reports indicate that Hamas approved the agreement without objections, paving the way for its implementation in the coming days.
