Former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant faced a wave of anger and protests during his visit to New York, where pro-Palestinian activists confronted him, accusing him of being responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians and demanding that he be held accountable for war crimes.
According to the Israeli news site “Ynet”, the incident occurred as Galant was leaving a commercial venue in the city. Several passersby gathered and shouted accusations at him, including: “61,000 Palestinians killed by your blood-stained hands” and “Why can you walk freely in the streets of New York?”
Faced with the protests, Galant did not respond and quickly got into his vehicle, escorted by security guards, before leaving the area.
It is worth noting that in November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
The charges against them include “using starvation as a weapon of war,” “murder and persecution,” and “inhumane acts,” which the ICC classifies as among the most serious crimes requiring prosecution.
It should be noted that ICC arrest warrants are legally binding for over 100 countries, many of which maintain diplomatic relations with Israel, potentially complicating the international travel of Israeli officials.
