Indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States kicked off in Muscat, the capital of Oman, to discuss the Iranian nuclear file, amid what Iranian officials described as a positive atmosphere.

The talks, held under Omani mediation, took place in separate rooms, with the Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and the American side headed by President Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff. Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi conveyed messages between the parties and confirmed that the discussions were cordial and helped bring viewpoints closer.

Despite repeated threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, Iran continues to push for a fair and honorable agreement that safeguards its national interests.

Both sides agreed to continue negotiations next week, raising hopes for tangible progress. This round is seen as an opportunity to rebuild trust, especially amid rising tensions and geopolitical stakes in the region.

In a notable development, there was a rare direct exchange between Witkoff and Araghchi in the presence of the Omani foreign minister at the end of the session.

According to the American outlet Axios, President Trump is reportedly willing to make concessions to reach a settlement, opening the door for possible direct talks between the two delegations in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed his country’s openness to dialogue, provided it is based on equality and mutual respect, criticizing the contradictory U.S. stance of issuing threats while calling for negotiations.
