General Ali Shadmani, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces’ “Khatam Al-Anbia” and a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, announced that Iran has acquired Russian Su-35 fighter jets.
In statements broadcast by the Iranian television channel “SNN” (Iranian News Network), Shadmani said, “We have purchased Su-35 fighter jets, and whenever needed, we will acquire military equipment to strengthen our air, land, and naval forces.”
This marks the first time an Iranian official has officially confirmed the purchase of Su-35 combat aircraft. However, Shadmani did not specify the number of aircraft acquired or whether they have already been delivered to Iran, according to Reuters and SNN.
It is worth noting that in November, the Iranian news agency “Tasnim” reported that Tehran had finalized arrangements for the purchase of these Russian fighter jets.
Earlier this month, Iran and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement. Although the agreement did not specifically mention arms transfers, it emphasized the development of military-technical cooperation between the two countries.
Shadmani also confirmed that Iran will continue to purchase military equipment to bolster its armed forces’ capabilities across all areas.
