The Nigerien government announced that cooperation with the EU ambassador in Niamey, Salvador Pinto da França, is no longer possible and officially requested his withdrawal and replacement as soon as possible. Niger's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the dispute arose from the EU’s announcement of humanitarian aid for flood victims without prior coordination with Nigerien authorities and the distribution of this aid through NGOs selected by the EU delegation, violating established diplomatic practices.
In response, the European Union recalled its ambassador to Brussels for consultations, rejecting the accusations made by Niger's transitional authorities. Niger reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with countries and international organizations that respect its sovereignty, dignity, and strategic national choices.
