Students at the University of Islamic Sciences in Laayoune were surprised by the university’s statement confirming the delivery of scholarships until the end of May 2024, explaining that they had not received their scholarships since the beginning of the academic year. Student spokesman, Edom Adi, said that about 30 students have not received any financial support so far, despite the university’s announcement to the contrary.
Edom Adi, the student spokesman, confirmed that he and his colleagues from the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion majoring in Law and Sharia Policy feel deliberately ignored by the university regarding the issue of scholarships. Adi, who presented his university registration number as proof of the validity of his claims, explained that the problem relates to the university administration, which did not distribute financial scholarships to students despite official assurances.
In response to the statement issued by the university, students stressed that the reality is very different from what has been portrayed, and that there is a lack of transparency in dealing with scholarships. This contradiction between the university’s statements and the students’ experience led to a state of dissatisfaction and questions about the administrative processes within the university.
The students called for an independent investigation to find out the reasons for delaying the distribution of scholarships and to ensure that every student obtains his financial rights, as the university promised in its previous statements. They also call for improved transparency and accountability mechanisms to prevent such issues from recurring in the future.
