Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appears today before the central court in Tel Aviv, marking a historic moment as a sitting prime minister faces trial. His testimony is part of the "1000 Cases," where he is accused of three major charges: receiving personal benefits (Case 1000), negotiating improved media coverage with a newspaper publisher (Case 2000), and accepting bribes for favorable coverage on a news website (Case 4000).
Despite repeated attempts to postpone his testimony citing "security concerns" and the collapse of the Syrian regime, the court denied his requests, scheduling sessions three times a week. Since the trial began in January 2020, 120 witnesses, including three state witnesses, have testified.
Netanyahu plans to present dozens of witnesses in his defense, with his testimony expected to last weeks or even months. Once his testimony concludes, the prosecution will begin its cross-examination as part of the counter-investigation phase.
