South Korea: Parliament Prepares to Vote on President's Impeachment

Six opposition parties in South Korea have submitted a bill to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol, amid growing public discontent over the declaration of martial law. According to Yonhap News Agency, the bill will be presented to Parliament on Thursday, with the main opposition Democratic United Party accelerating the process.

The National Assembly is scheduled to convene at midnight on December 5 to present the bill, with voting to take place after 24 hours and within a maximum of 72 hours. Passing the impeachment requires 200 out of 300 votes, necessitating support from at least 18 lawmakers from the ruling party.

If approved, the president will be suspended until the Constitutional Court issues its decision. Additionally, the Democratic Party plans to hold meetings to address internal security and defense issues related to martial law.
