President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the main petroleum products depot in Nouakchott as part of the celebrations of the 64th anniversary of national independence. The project, with a total cost of $36 million, will increase storage capacity to 100,000 cubic meters, divided among diesel, fuel oil, gasoline, and kerosene, strengthening the country’s energy sovereignty and ensuring continuous supply.
This strategic project will reduce maritime transport costs between Nouadhibou and Nouakchott, saving $34.2 million annually. The Minister of Energy and Petroleum emphasized that the project aligns with the President’s commitments to modernize the national economy and secure a steady petroleum supply. The investment costs are expected to be fully recovered within one year.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, military and security leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Mauritania.
