The Senegalese government has announced an aid package worth 8 billion CFA francs ($13.2 million) to support victims of recent floods caused by the overflowing Senegal and Gambia rivers. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye emphasized the urgency of intensifying relief efforts while safeguarding crops and economic activities. He also highlighted the need to adapt civil protection systems to address the effects of climate change.
In collaboration with organizations such as the Senegal River Basin Development Organization (OMVS) and the Gambia River Basin Development Organization (OMVG), the government plans to develop initiatives to mitigate the impact of flooding. The president announced a planned visit to the Kedougou region to show solidarity with affected communities.
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko confirmed the allocation during an online address, following a coordination meeting attended by various partners, including the Senegalese Red Cross.
