According to **"CNN"**, Israeli authorities have arrested more than 30 Israeli citizens over the past year on charges of spying for Iran, an unprecedented number, according to Israel Police Chief Maor Goren. Among the detainees are seven individuals from the city of Haifa, described as an alleged espionage cell.
The charges against the suspects include photographing military bases, such as the Nevatim Airbase, and plotting to assassinate senior officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. One of the main suspects is Aziz Nisanov, an Azerbaijani immigrant accused of working for Iran for more than two years. Another suspect, Moti Maman, a 73-year-old from Ashkelon, is accused of planning the assassination of Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Israeli authorities stated that the detainees, most of whom are Jewish Israelis, provided valuable intelligence to Iran in exchange for money. These arrests have shocked Israel, where Jewish citizens are generally known for their deep sense of patriotism.
